Roulette is an obligatory element, along with blackjack and craps,in any full service casino in the United States, but in France it's much more popular as roulette is a cultural and historical part of the gambling scene. Roulette was popular in Europe since the 18th century and today it is played online all over the world. Roulette was played in Paris since 1796 and nowadays it almost has't changed. Roulette comes from multiple other games. To make a modern roulette game an Italian ball game called "biribi" and another wheel game that involved colors but not numbers were combined. The English game "Roly-poly" which consisted of black and white slots was launched in 1720. Thus, roulette is a hybrid of both birib and Roly-poly. To understand a game is to enjoy it. And although knowledge of the game won't change your strategy or your chances of winning, it will increase the amount of pleasure you take away from the tables.

The world 'roulette' means 'a small wheel' in French. It was Blaise Pascal who introduced the primitive version of this game in the 17th century. Later the single zero Roulette appeared. It was introduced by Francois and Louis Blanc. In the 19th century casino gambling was forbidden in France, that's why the game wasn't so well-known in France, but it was very popular in Hamburg and Germany. Later the game of Roulette was brought back to France and the Prince of Monaco loved this game a lot. In the 1800s the game of Roulette was introduced to the US public. The improvements were deleted, and a double "00" returned. The game became popular in the old west of America.

You don't compete with other players. In Roulette you play only against the dealer. 8 players can take part in the game. Players buy in and receive colored chips. All players have chips of different color. If you win a spin, you cash your color chip in for a cash chip of a certain value. The "En Prison" rule can be applied when you make an even money bet and the spinning ball stops on the zero. In this case you can either use your bet for another spin or you can take it. If you choose to leave your bet for another spin you put it "in prison" as the jargon is. The 'La Partage' rule. When you place an outside even money bet and the ball lands on zero, you lose half your bet and you are not able to leave the remainder in prison, or out for another spin.
