In roulette everything depends on chance. Trying to keep the house edge to a minimum is almost all you can do from a strategic point of view. Casinos often have special rules which directly affect on the edge.
The first special rule is the 'surrender' option. This rule is applied to outside bets such as odd/even, red/black, and high/low. If the balls lands on the 0 or the 00 you only lose half your bet, rather than the whole betting. This affects the house edge considerably; after all it is the 0 and 00 which account for the high house edge in the first place. Even though the payoffs aren't as great for outside bets, you are improving your odds substantially by finding a table with the ‘surrender' rule.
The point of 0 and 00 is interesting enough. You better look for one 0 tables, which are called European tables. Primarily found in Europe, these tables offer a much more attractive house edge from the player's point of view. With a European table to play on you are reducing the house edge from 5. 26 percent to 2. 7 percent. Physically European roulette tables are found more often in Europe, but in the ‘online world’ gambling they are just a click away.

Roulette Board Tips.
Roulette is the third biggest game in the US and the world because of its relative simplicity. There are two versions of Roulette: the European and the American Roulette. Let's focus on the American version. The American double zero increases the house edge on American roulette tables. Roulette payouts are not pot luck or simple jackpot wins, although they vary depending on what was wagered in the first place and where the chip is placed on the mat. Straight bets yield the highest payouts. A straight bet is choosing one number to bet. You can also choose zero or double zero. The payout is 35 to 1. It's so high because you obviously have a one in 38 chance of winning. You can choose this bet if you have cash to burn. You can increase your chances but still get a high payout by splitting your bet. This means that you put your chip between two numbers on the board. If it lands on either of these numbers you get a 17 to 1 payout. You can also use corner bets - yielding an 8 to 1 payout. You can use different combinations. Perhaps the easiest method and at times the most rewarding (in the long run) is to bet on red or black. However this gives a low payout, which is even to how much you wagered. For example if you bet and win, you get your back with an extra . Identical to this is the odd and even bet. Simply bet on whether the ball will land on an odd or even number. You don't have to decide the exact number. High bets are between 1 and 18, and low bets are between 19 and 36. Like the above two a winning bet would simply grant a payout of 1 to 1. Of course these payouts can alter as you use different combinations at once - but then you greatly decrease your odds of winning, and you can quickly burn through your whole bank balance. The simplest method is to bet on odd or even and red or black. Combine this with the Martingale system and you will always be in the positive. It just depends on how big your bank balance is and if it can take a huge losing streak, or adhere to the maximum bet limit whilst taking a loss. So the bets to avoid in this game are all single number bets and the five number bet (only found on double zero wheels) because these types of bets have the largest disparity between true odds and actual payouts. |
Spinning a ball on a round wheel is the main feature of the game of Roulette. There are thirty-seven slots on the wheel, all the slots are numbered. When the wheel stops, the ball stops in one of the slots. The objective of the game is to guess the number on which the ball will stop. If you predict the number of the section in which the ball stops, you win. The size of your winning depends on how the bet was placed.

The "En Prison" rule. If you place an even money bet and the ball lands on zero, you can either take back your bet or leave it for another spin. If you choose to leave your bet for another spin you put it "in prison" as the jargon is. The 'La Partage' rule. When you place an outside even money bet and the ball lands on zero, you lose half your bet and you are not able to leave the remainder in prison, or out for another spin.
